Preface. Bacterial pangenomics.
Methods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.), 2015From a pioneering field a decade ago, now bacterial genomics is a mature research interdisciplinary field, which is approached by ecologist, geneticists, bacteriologists, molecular biologists and evolutionary biologists working in medical, industrial and basic science. The high diffusion of bacterial genomics in many different fields has been helped by

A conception of general interaction between genetic information of different organisms is formulated. A new concept "Pangenom" is proposed for description of the total sum of genes of living organisms and viruses. Features of the Pangenom structure and processes controlling its saving and variability are discussed.

Pangenomes at the limits of evolution
Trends in Ecology & EvolutionEvolutionary pathways can be random or deterministic. In a recent article, Beavan et al. investigate this balance by applying machine learning models to microbial pangenomes. The presence of almost one-third of genes can be reliably inferred, indicating a surprising amount of predictable evolution.

The concept of plant pangenomes appeared in 2007, but the preliminary pangenomes of corn and soybeans were created in 2010. First pangenomes of three plant species (Brassica rapa, Glycine soja, and Oryza sativa) were constructed only in 2014. In 2016, several species from Populus and Oryza were used to construct pangenomes for these genera, which ...
