The ploidy status of Anthephora pubescens (Panicoideae)

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Botany, 1982
A basic chromosome number of x =9 for the genus Anthephora Schreb. is confirmed. Samples of five A. pubescens Nees cultivars selected for cultivated pasture purposes consisted of tetraploid plants only (2n=4x=36).

Variation in carbon sequestration in response to water limitation in a diverse panel of switchgrass genotypes

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Quality, Volume 55, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
Abstract Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) has been identified as a “model” herbaceous species for bioenergy production by the United States Department of Energy. Switchgrass can provide several ecosystem services, including biodiversity support, soil erosion control, runoff filtering, and reclamation of marginal land.

Environmental changes on grass flowering phenological trends (2000–2021)

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 6, Page 1824-1833, November 2025.
Climate change is impacting the flowering of grasses, which in turn impacts the health of people due to allergic reactions triggered by grass pollen. The timing of flowering was studied for 15 grass species across various habitats in the Cordoba region of Spain.

Grass functional traits reflect the long history of fire and grazers in the savannas of Texas

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 112, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Premise Understanding relationships among grass traits, fire, and herbivores may help improve conservation strategies for savannas that are threatened by novel disturbance regimes. Emerging theory, developed in Africa, emphasizes that functional traits of savanna grasses reflect the distinct ways that fire and grazers consume biomass ...

The stepwise rise of angiosperm‐dominated terrestrial ecosystems

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 5, Page 2131-2149, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Angiosperms are the most diverse and abundant plant taxon today and dominate the majority of Earth's terrestrial ecosystems. They underwent rapid divergence and biogeographic expansion from the early to the middle Cretaceous. Yet, transformative ecosystem change brought about by the increased ecological dominance of angiosperms unfolded ...
