Molecular identification and antimicrobial susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus nasal isolates from medical students in Cartagena, Colombia

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
Staphylococcus aureus (SA) remains a major cause of nosocomial and community-acquired infections worldwide. Nasal carriage of this bacterium among hospital personnel constitutes an important source for nosocomial infections.

Hospital‐Associated Antimicrobial Resistant Bacteria on 95 Mobile Phones: An International Metagenomic “Phonome” Analysis

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
On average, phones harbored 3.62 of the top 10 killers and 2.49 ESKAPE organisms. In total, 667 VFGs (8621 Hits) and 262 ARGs (2475 Hits) were identified on 95 mobile phones. Mobile phones serve as a platform for horizontal gene transfer and AMR development.

Burn Wound Infections With Staphylococcus aureus: Clinical Characteristics and Risk Factors for Methicillin‐Resistant Strains

open access: yesInternational Wound Journal, Volume 23, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to systematically delineate the clinical characteristics and identify the key risk factors associated with methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections in burn patients, thereby informing targeted preventive measures and therapeutic strategies.

Panton-Valentine Leukocidin-Producing Staphylococcus aureus Infection: A Case Series. [PDF]

open access: yesInfect Dis Rep, 2020
Panton-Valentine leukocidin-producing Staphylococcus aureus (PVL-SA) is associated with relapsing multifocal skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI), necrotizing pneumonia (NP) and severe musculoskeletal infections. Epidemiology is underknown and underdiagnosis is likely. Recent travel abroad, case clustering and relapsing disease are often reported. We

Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus lugdunensis Act in Concert to Disrupt the Nasal Epithelial Barrier

open access: yesClinical and Translational Allergy, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) pathophysiology and its link to microbiome is an area of ongoing investigation. Certain pathogens, in particular Staphylococcus aureus described to contribute to recalcitrant CRS. In addition, different species of coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS) are frequently isolated from the sinonasal cavity

Panton–Valentine leukocidin antibodies for the treatment of MRSA skin infections? [PDF]

open access: yesExpert Review of Anti-infective Therapy, 2011
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has recently caused epidemic outbreaks of community-associated (CA) skin infections. The infecting strains frequently contain the genes encoding the staphylococcal toxin, Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL).

Panton-Valentine leukocidin positive MRSA in 2003: the Dutch situation

open access: yesEurosurveillance, 2004
Analysis of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates in the Netherlands in 2003 revealed that 8% of the hospital isolates carried the loci for Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL). Molecular subtyping showed that most Dutch PVL-MRSA genotypes corresponded to well-documented global epidemic types.

Community-acquired Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Children, Taiwan

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
Highly virulent community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) with Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is common worldwide. Using antimicrobial drug susceptibility testing, staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec typing, exotoxin ...

Nanozyme Aptasensor Array for Predictive Sensing of Virulent and Antibiotic‐Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus strains

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 15, 12 March 2026.
An array‐based nanozyme‐aptamer platform for rapid, colorimetric fingerprinting of Staphylococcus aureus strains is reported. By combining differential aptamer dissociation with pattern‐recognition analysis, the sensor achieves strain‐level discrimination, infers virulence, and predicts the identification of previously unencountered strains, offering a
