Temperature sensitivity of the pyloric neuromuscular system and its modulation by dopamine. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
We report here the effects of temperature on the p1 neuromuscular system of the stomatogastric system of the lobster (Panulirus interruptus). Muscle force generation, in response to both the spontaneously rhythmic in vitro pyloric network neural activity

Increasing spillover enhances southern California spiny lobster catch along marine reserve borders

open access: yesEcosphere, 2022
The conservation benefits of marine reserves are well established but their contribution to adjacent fisheries via spillover is less certain and context‐dependent.

Raman spectroscopic analysis of the secondary structure in Panulirus interruptus hemocyanin [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1984
The secondary structure content of Panulirus interruptus hemocyanin crystals is estimated to be 29±5% helix and 42±4% ß‐strand. These estimates are obtained from an analysis of the Raman amide I spectrum. This report constitutes a test of this method of analyzing Raman spectra since the X‐ray structure of P.

Feeding habits of the spiny Lobster (Panulirus interruptus Randall, 1840) in Bahia Tortugas, Baja California Sur

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 1995
The feeding habits and nutritional state of the spiny lobster (Panulirus interruptus) were studied; 71 specimens, ranging from 57-132.2 mm cephalothoracic length, were collected on a seasonal basis in August and November 1986 and February and May 1987 ...

Primary structure of the acidic carbohydrate chain of hemocyanin from Panulirus interruptus [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1987
The N‐glycosidic carbohydrate chains of hemocyanin from the spiny lobster Panulirus interruptus were liberated by hydrazinolysis of a pronase digest and subsequently reduced. Separation of the mixture of oligosaccharide‐alditols by high‐voltage paper electrophoresis resulted in a neutral (90%) and an acidic (10%) fraction.

Temperature preference and circadian oxygen consumption of the red spiny lobster, Panulirus interruptus (Randall, 1842)

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 2004
The temperature preference of the red spiny lobster, Panulirus interruptus, measured during a 24-h cycle, was characterized by two selected temperatures, one during the light phase (median = 13.3 ± 0.33ºC) and another during the dark phase (median = 15 ...

Influence of antibody binding on oxygen binding behavior of Panulirus interruptus hemocyanin [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1997
Oxygen binding behavior of monomeric subunit a and the hexameric form of this subunit of hemocyanin of Panulirus interruptus is influenced by the binding of various monoclonal antibodies. These antibodies react with other surface parts of the subunit than its second domain in which the oxygen binding site is located.

Measuring biological effectiveness across a very large, coherent network of coastal marine protected areas. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Appl
Abstract We evaluated the performance of California's coastal marine protected area (MPA) network, the largest scientifically designed network of its kind, using SCUBA survey data from a large‐scale, long‐term kelp forest monitoring program. To comprehensively evaluate MPA performance, we employed multiple metrics across various scales of taxonomic and

The urban lives of green sea turtles: Insights into behavior in an industrialized habitat using an animal-borne camera. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
An animal‐borne camera was used to study a population of East Pacific green turtles. Seventy hours of video were recorded, providing insight into the behavioral and social habits of this population. Abstract The cryptic and aquatic life histories of sea turtles have made them a challenging group to directly observe, leaving significant knowledge gaps ...
