Fungal systematics can feel overwhelming given the vast species diversity within this kingdom, with numerous subgroups at every taxonomic rank. This often creates a disconnect between the undertsnidng of fungal taxonomic diversity and their societal relevance.

Identification and characterization of expressed retrotransposons in the genome of the Paracoccidioides species complex [PDF]
Background: Species from the Paracoccidioides complex are thermally dimorphic fungi and the causative agents of paracoccidioidomycosis, a deep fungal infection that is the most prevalent systemic mycosis in Latin America and represents the most important

Antifungal Potential of Essential Oil Chemotypes of Eugenia uniflora Against Phytopathogens
This study investigates the chemical profile and antifungal activity of Eugenia uniflora essential oils. The major constituents identified were selina‐1,3,7(11)‐trien‐8‐one and curzerene. The oils showed significant inhibitory effects against the phytopathogens Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Pestalotia sp. These results emphasize the potential of E.

Paracoccidioides species complex : ecology, phylogeny, sexual reproduction, and virulence [PDF]
Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is a deep systemic mycosis caused by human fungal pathogens of the Paracoccidioides genus. The disease is geographically restricted to subtropical areas of Latin America (from south of Mexico to north of Argentina) with a ...

Overview of the use of silica nanoparticles in vaccines against pathogens. Different kinds of vaccines against infectious diseases are currently using solid or mesoporous silica nanoparticles in their formulation. Silica microparticles and nanoparticles (SiNPs) have been studied as vehicles for vaccines.

Paracoccidioides brasiliensis-gp43 used as paracoccidioidin [PDF]
A purified glycoprotein of 43,000 daltons from Paracoccidioides brasiliensis (gp43) was tested as paracoccidioidin in delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) tests in both experimental animals (guinea pig and mice) and patients with paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM). The gp43 paracoccidioidin was compared with the traditional Fava Netto antigen (AgFN).

This study integrates computational and experimental approaches to explore how short dipeptides modulate the activity of chorismate synthase. Unexpectedly, the GluAsp dipeptide enhanced enzyme activity by promoting a transient surface channel near the active site, possibly revealing a new structural feature relevant for microbial metabolism and ...
