Preparation and properties of paraffin/SiO2 composite phase change materials

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2015
Paraffin/SiO2 composite phase change materials based on a paraffin core and a silica shell were prepared using TEOS as a silica source through a sol-gel method under acidic condition.

Adding Nano-TiO2 to Water and Paraffin to Enhance Total Efficiency of a Photovoltaic Thermal PV/T System Subjected to Harsh Weathers

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
Iraq is characterized by hot and sunny weather with high radiation intensity. These conditions are suitable to produce photovoltaic electricity, on the one hand, but on the other hand are not suitable for photovoltaic modules whose efficiency decreases ...

Preparation of Anisotropic Aerogels with Pristine Graphene by Heat Flow and Study of Their Effects on Heat Transfer in Paraffin

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2019
In this study, anisotropic graphene/graphene oxide (GO) aerogels (AGAs) were obtained by freeze-drying after direct participation of pristine graphene in the self-assembly of anisotropic gel by the heat flow method.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Efficiency of GC-MS method in detection of beeswax adulterated with paraffin

open access: yesJournal of Apicultural Science, 2016
The efficiency of the gas chromatography - mass detector (GC-MS) technique for the detection of beeswax adulterated with paraffin, was evaluated. For this purpose, beeswax samples with paraffin additions (3, 5, 10, 30, 50%) were analysed.
