Parotitis and Parainfluenza 3 Virus
Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1972To the Editor .—In the light of the interesting report of Zollar and Mufson on acute parotitis associated with parainfluenza 3 virus infection, 1 we would like to report the following case. We believe that it may be the third case illustrating the association of this virus with the mumps syndrome.

Bovine parainfluenza-3 virus (bPI(3)V) is a long-recognized, currently underappreciated, endemic infection in cattle populations. Clinical disease is most common in calves with poor passive transfer or decayed maternal antibodies. It is usually mild, consisting of fever, nasal discharge, and dry cough.

Abstract A paramyxovirus isolated from a fruit-eating bat, Rousettus leschenaulti, was identified as a new animal virus within the parainfluenza type-2 group. The RNA-containing virus is pleomorphic, 90 to 120 mµ in size, and has a 16 mµ inner ribonucleoprotein helix.

Template Activity of Parainfluenza Virus Ribonucleoprotein
Nature, 1970WE have shown previously that Sendai virus ribonucleoprotein (RNP) particles in the cytoplasm of infected cells are associated with ribosomes in complexes of buoyant density δ = 1.45 g cm−3, and that these take up labelled amino-acids1,2. We now demonstrate that Sendai virus RNP stimulates the incorporation of labelled amino-acids into polypeptides in ...

Parainfluenza Virus Immunization
American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1967THE NEED for and the present status of parainfluenza virus vaccines have been described in published reports. 1 With one exception, the antigens have been administered as monovalent vaccines and antibody responses measured. 1 The desired goal of respiratory virus immunization is the administration of a multivalent preparation containing the principal ...

We report the isolation of parainfluenza virus type 3 from the CSF of a 19-year-old man with Guillain-Barre syndrome. Although parainfluenza viruses are usually associated with respiratory tract illnesses, some strains show a neurotropism not previously appreciated. Thus, parainfluenza viruses may be responsible for a portion of cases of Guillain-Barre
