Expression characteristics of Hsd3b7 in the gonads of Paralichthys olivaceus

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2023
Steroidogenesis is an important biological process for gonadal differentiation and development. In mammals, 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 7 (HSD3B7) could convert 3β-hydroxy of 7α-hydroxycholesterol into a ketone and form 7α-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one, which may affect steroidogenesis. However, in fish, the study of Hsd3b7 is still lacking.

Immune relevant genes of Japanese flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part D: Genomics and Proteomics, 2006
The fish immune system is comprised of the non-specific and specific immune systems, having both humoral and cellular mechanisms to resist against infectious diseases. However, the biodefense- and immune-related systems of fish are not clearly understood at the molecular level.

Cryopreservation of flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) embryos by vitrification

Theriogenology, 2005
Conventional cryopreservation of complex teleost embryos has been unsuccessful, possibly because their large size (1-7 mm diameter), multi-compartmental structure and low water permeability lead to intracellular ice formation and chilling injury. To overcome these obstacles, we have developed a vitrification procedure for cryopreservation of flounder ...

The background adaptation of the flatfish, Paralichthys olivaceus

Physiology & Behavior, 1991
The background adaptation of the flatfish, Paralichthys olivaceus, was studied by sliding beneath the fish a long strip of plastic sheet with various patterns to serve as a background. The body shade and pattern differed depending upon the pattern used.

Cloning and expression of flatfish (Paralichthys olivaceus) interferon cDNA

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1993
Fish interferon (IFN) cDNA was first cloned from the cDNA library of immortalized flatfish leukocytes. The clone contains an open reading frame that encodes a 138 amino acid polypeptide including a glycosylation site and a signal peptide containing 30 amino acids. BHK-21 cells transfected with the INF-expression plasmid produced active recombinant IFN (

Genetic characterization of asymmetric reciprocal hybridization between the flatfishes Paralichthys olivaceus and Paralichthys dentatus

Genetica, 2009
Interspecific reciprocal crosses between the two flatfishes Paralichthys olivaceus and P. dentatus yielded hybrids with different viabilities. Specifically, the hybrids of P. olivaceus female and P. dentatus male (HI) were found to be viable, while the reciprocal hybrids from P. dentatus female and P. olivaceus male (HII) were completely inviable.

Functional characterisation of the Japanese flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, Mx promoter

Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2006
The Japanese flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, genome appears to encode a single Mx gene based on Southern blotting and previous cDNA studies. The 5' flanking region of the Japanese flounder Mx gene was cloned and analysed for its regulatory regions. A TATA box (-24 to -30), two interferon-stimulated response elements (ISREs) (-69 to -80 and -508 to ...

Anti-viral activity of galectin-1 from flounder Paralichthys olivaceus

Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2013
Galectins are a family of Ca(2+)-independent soluble lectins characterized by their affinity to β-galactosides. Mammalian galectins have been shown to play a defense role against certain bacteria, fungi and viruses. However, the immunological functions of galectins in fish is poorly characterized.
