Anomalous scaling in the Zhang model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We apply the moment analysis technique to analyze large scale simulations of the Zhang sandpile model. We find that this model shows different scaling behavior depending on the update mechanism used.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Structural-Parametric Synthesis of the RoboMech Class Parallel Mechanism with Two Sliders

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
This paper addresses the structural-parametric synthesis and kinematic analysis of the RoboMech class of parallel mechanisms (PM) having two sliders.

Formalization of Phase Ordering

open access: yes, 2016
Phasers pose an interesting synchronization mechanism that generalizes many collective synchronization patterns seen in parallel programming languages, including barriers, clocks, and point-to-point synchronization using latches or semaphores.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Modeling and Analysis of a Novel 3R Parallel Compliant Mechanism

open access: yesMachines, 2023
This paper presents and investigates a new three-rotation (3R) parallel compliant mechanism that uses compliant rods to achieve three rotations. The mechanism is designed for use in pointing devices or as a spatial parallel manipulator.

Stochastic Particle Acceleration in Parallel Relativistic Shocks

open access: yes, 2005
We present results of test-particle simulations on both the first- and the second-order Fermi acceleration for relativistic parallel shock waves.

Probabilistic motion planning for parallel mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes2003 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.03CH37422), 2004
Despite the increasing interest in parallel mechanisms during the last years, few researchers have addressed the motion planning problem for such systems. The few existing techniques lie in a representation of the workspace of the mechanism (or its boundary).

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
