Enhancing Surgical Efficiency and Cost‐Effectiveness With TaTME‐Combined Robot‐Assisted Surgery for Lower Rectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Robot‐assisted rectal surgery (RAS) offers improved dexterity and visualization; however, the high cost of equipment and consumables remains a major challenge for hospital management. At our institution, we have adopted a combined approach using transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) for lower rectal cancers, aiming to shorten ...

Enhanced Transcriptional Activity and Mitochondrial Localization of STAT3 Co-induce Axon Regrowth in the Adult Central Nervous System

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is a transcription factor central to axon regrowth with an enigmatic ability to act in different subcellular regions independently of its transcriptional roles.

Automatic facial analysis for objective assessment of facial paralysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Facial Paralysis is a condition causing decreased movement on one side of the face. A quantitative, objective and reliable assessment system would be an invaluable tool for clinicians treating patients with this condition. This paper presents an approach

Microendovascular Neural Recording from Cortical and Deep Vessels with High Precision and Minimal Invasiveness

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Intravascular electroencephalography (ivEEG) using micro‐intravascular electrodes was developed. Cortical‐vein ivEEG showed a higher signal‐to‐noise ratio and finer spatial resolution of somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) than superior sagittal sinus ivEEG, and deep‐vein ivEEG captured clear visual evoked potentials.

Temporal and Severity-Dependent Alterations in Plasma Extracellular Vesicle Profiles Following Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesCells
Spinal cord injury (SCI) triggers both local and systemic pathological responses that evolve over time and differ with injury severity. Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs), known mediators of intercellular communication, may serve as biomarkers ...

ControlIt: A Universal Framework for Translational, Adaptive, and Online Brain–Computer Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Brain–computer interfaces (BCIs) lack a unified platform that works across signals and algorithms. ControlIt, an open‐source, modular ROS2‐based BCI framework supporting electroencephalography (EEG), electrocorticography (ECoG), and spike‐based decoding across both classification and regression tasks is presented.

IC100 blocks inflammasome activation induced by α-synuclein aggregates and ASC specks

open access: yesnpj Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is associated with chronic sterile inflammation and persistent inflammasome activation involving α-synuclein and ASC protein aggregates, but the underlying mechanisms of the neuroinflammatory response remain unclear.

A fresh look at paralytics in the critically ill: real promise and real concern. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs), or "paralytics," often are deployed in the sickest patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) when usual care fails.
