Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Soil parameters affecting longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) site quality in east Texas
The decline since European colonization in longleaf pine (Pinus palustris Mill.) within its range in the southeastern United States, attributed to factors including both site conversion and fire exclusion has spurred interest in the re-establishment of ...

Interreligious prayer: Prospects and parameters [PDF]
The coming together of people of diverse religions to plan or reflect upon a common action or venture, and to consider, let alone engage in, an act of shared spiritual experience – such as interreligious prayer – is something comparatively novel and ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

This note is a brief survey and a discussion of recent ideas and open problems in the understanding of an important aspect of Type Theory: how terms may depend on types. This problem is at the core of the distinction between “ad hoc” and proper polymorphism and inspired the large amount of work on “parametricity”.

Predicting Parameters in Deep Learning [PDF]
We demonstrate that there is significant redundancy in the parameterization of several deep learning models. Given only a few weight values for each feature it is possible to accurately predict the remaining values.

A Tuner that Accelerates Parameters
We propose a tuner, suitable for adaptive control and (in its discrete-time version) adaptive filtering applications, that sets the second derivative of the parameter estimates rather than the first derivative as is done in the overwhelming majority of ...

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
