Analysis of a parametrically driven pendulum [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2001
We study in this paper the behavior of a periodically driven nonlinear mechanical system. Bifurcation diagrams are found which locate regions of quasiperiodic, periodic and chaotic behavior within the parameter space of the system. We also conduct a symbolic analysis of the model, which demonstrates that the symbolic dynamics of two-dimensional maps ...

Additively Manufactured Semiflexible Titanium Lattices as Hydrogel Reinforcement for Biomedical Implants

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, 2021
Hydrogels are one of the most widespread biomaterials used in tissue engineering. However, they possess weak mechanical properties and are often unstable in load‐bearing applications in vivo.

A parametric meta‐analysis

open access: yesStatistics in Medicine, 2019
In a meta‐analysis, we assemble a sample of independent, nonidentically distributed p‐values. The Fisher's combination procedure provides a chi‐squared test of whether the p‐values were sampled from the null uniform distribution. After rejecting the null uniform hypothesis, we are faced with the problem of how to combine the assembled p‐values.

Parametric and non-parametric analysis of tax changes [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Business and Economics Review, 2016
In this paper we examine the net effect of several major tax changes in Australia on residential property prices. Specifically, we consider the announcement and introduction effects that resulted from several policy changes including the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the accompanying First Home Owner Grant (FHOG).

Numerical analysis to estimate near-wellbore drilling induced failures area for fractured formation using Universal Discrete Element Codes (UDEC)

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2021
There have been reported cases of wellbore instability near-wellbore area due to failures associated with drilling operations, the magnitude and extension of the failure area is imprecisely evaluated by copious researchers due to some of the limitations ...

Efficient Surrogate-Assisted Parameter Analysis for Coal-Supercritical Water Fluidized Bed Reactor with Adaptive Sampling

open access: yesMachines, 2023
Supercritical water fluidized beds (SCWFBs) are promising and efficient reactors for the gasification of coal in supercritical water. The understanding and investigation of multi-phase flows as well as the gasification process usually rely on time ...

A new methodology to assess the structural capacity of bridge portfolios: application in Northeastern Brazilian bridges

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2022
This article presents a new proposal to estimate structural capacity models for bridge portfolios. A common approach is the use of ductility-based capacity models. Herein, a ductility replacement for curvature or drift as engineering demand parameters is
