new test for the parametric form of the variance function in nonparametric regression [PDF]

open access: yes
In the common nonparametric regression model the problem of testing for the parametric form of the conditional variance is considered. A stochastic process based on the difference between the empirical processes obtained from the standardized ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Efficiency of Average Treatment Effect Estimation When the True Propensity Is Parametric

open access: yesEconometrics, 2019
It is well known that efficient estimation of average treatment effects can be obtained by the method of inverse propensity score weighting, using the estimated propensity score, even when the true one is known.

Maximal uniform convergence rates in parametric estimation problems [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper considers parametric estimation problems with i.i.d. data. It focusses on rate-effciency, in the sense of maximal possible convergence rates of stochastically bounded estimators, as an optimality criterion, largely unexplored in parametric ...

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Enhancing Fault Ride-Through Capacity of DFIG-Based WPs by Adaptive Backstepping Command Using Parametric Estimation in Non-Linear Forward Power Controller Design

open access: yesIEEE Access
The principal issue associated with wind parks (WPs) based on doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) is their vulnerability to network faults. This paper presents a novel nonlinear forward power controller design with an adaptive backstepping command ...

Maximal uniform convergence rates in parametric estimation problems

open access: yes, 2008
This paper considers parametric estimation problems with independent, identically nonregularly distributed data. It focuses on rate efficiency, in the sense of maximal possible convergence rates of stochastically bounded estimators, as an optimality ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
