Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Dynamics of a parametrically excited simple pendulum [PDF]

open access: yesChaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2018
The dynamics of a parametric simple pendulum submitted to an arbitrary angle of excitation ϕ was investigated experimentally by simulations and analytically. Analytical calculations for the loci of saddle-node bifurcations corresponding to the creation of resonant orbits were performed by applying Melnikov's method.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Internal resonance between in-plane and out-of-plane modes of vibration of inclined cables subjected to vertical support excitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Inclined cables are important structural elements of cable-stayed bridges. When the bridge deck oscillates, large amplitude cable vibrations can arise in various modes as a result of the low cable damping, parametric excitation or non-linear modal ...

Planetary gear dynamic response to mesh parametric excitation

open access: yesVojnotehnički Glasnik, 2013
Unutrašnje dinamičke sile i pomeranja po predviđenim stepenima slobode u planetarnim prenosnicima posledica su, prvenstveno, promen-ljivih elastičnih deformacija zubaca u sprezi, vibracija delova prenosnika i odstupanja geometrije ozubljenja usled ...

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Parametric Excitation in a Two Degree of Freedom MEMS System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This contribution investigates the influence of parametric excitation on the dynamic stability of a microelectrome- chanical system. In systems with just a single degree of freedom, parametric excitation causes the oscillator to exhibit unstable behavior

Parametric Excitation In Engineering Systems

open access: yes, 2009
For a long time parametric excitation in engineering systems was associated mainly with parametric resonances and harmful vibrations. Parametric excitation seemed to have only negative effects on the dynamics of systems and therefore research was ...

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...
