The Kaynean analysis of nominal modification and its parametric implications日本語の名詞句に関しては，既にFukui(1986，1988，1995a)等によって，一致現象と修飾現象等に関する日・英語の統語的振る舞いの違いを根拠に，「日本語には機能範疇が存在しない」という仮説が提案されているが，未だ研究者間で完全な合意には至っていないのが実情である。本論文では，日・英語に於ける名詞修飾構造に焦点を置きながら，比較統語論の観点から機能範疇のパラメータ化の問題を取り上げ，Fukuiの当該仮説を支持する新たな根拠を提出する。具体的には，Kayne(1994)流のD-CP構造を仮定する名詞修飾構造分析が基本的に妥当だとすると，日本語には機能範疇Dが存在しないという結果が導かれることを示す。特に，日本語のいわゆる「形容詞」による名詞修飾構造が時制節を含む関係節構造を成している点を確認し，
