Digital reconstruction of Barros Lima’s design for São Torcato Sanctuary, 1825

open access: yesVirtual Archaeology Review
This study reconstructs the unfinished architectural project of the São Torcato Sanctuary, designed by Luís Inácio Barros Lima in 1825, using modern digital visualisation techniques.

Degree Variance and Emotional Strategies Catalyze Cooperation in Dynamic Signed Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We study the problem of the emergence of cooperation in dynamic signed networks where agent strategies coevolve with relational signs and network topology.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Photogrammetry on 3D Renders of Parametric Built Heritage Models for Interoperability [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences
Modelling cultural heritage necessitates the use of specific software and file formats that can be difficult to transpose between one another. These interoperability challenges are particularly acute when employing parametric modelling tools, whether ...

Parametric Statistical Models

open access: yes, 2021
Now that we have introduced probability models, we have the tools we need to put our statisticians’ hats on. We want to make a probabilistic model that best describes the world around us. How is it that we can best move from our set of observations to a good model—a model that not only describes our samples, but the process that generated them? In this

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
