Isolation of parapoxvirus from a cow treated with interferon-γ
Veterinary Microbiology, 1999A virus was isolated from peripheral blood leukocytes of a cow which was kept in an isolated pen after it was injected with recombinant bovine interferon-gamma. The virus was identified as a member of genus Parapoxvirus in the family Poxviridae on the basis of electron microscopic observations and serological tests.

Survey on Antibody against Parapoxvirus among Cattle in Japan
Microbiology and Immunology, 2000AbstractA seroepidemiological survey was performed on antibody against parapoxvirus among cattle in Japan using the agar gel immunodiffusion test and enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay. A total 1,819 sera were collected from cattle in various parts of Japan for the survey.

Recurrent localised cutaneous parapoxvirus infection in three cats
New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 2008Three cats were presented with single proliferative lesions affecting one foot, which failed to heal after medical treatment, and recurred despite surgical resection.Histologically, the lesions were proliferative and papillary. There was marked acanthosis, rete peg formation, and compact orthokeratosis, with large numbers of bacteria in the ...

Equine dermatitis outbreak associated with parapoxvirus
Journal of General Virology, 2023Parapoxviruses (PPV) cause skin and mucous membrane lesions in several animal species, and of the five recognized PPVs, at least three are zoonotic. Equine PPV (EqPPV) is the sixth one initially described in humans in the United States and later in a severely sick horse in Finland in 2013–2015.

Analysis of parapoxvirus genomes
Archives of Virology, 1985Eight stomatitis papulosa (SP), four orf and two milker's nodes (MN) virus isolates were compared by restriction enzyme analysis. Considerable genetic heterogeneity was found not only between isolates belonging to the three different taxonomic groups but also between members of the same group.

Parapoxvirus in goats: experimental infection and genomic analysis
Veterinary Research Communications, 2008Parapoxvirus are DNA viruses belonging to the family Poxviridae, subfamily Chordopox- virinae. The genus encompasses four species: the bovine papular stomatitis virus (BPSV) and the pseudocowpox virus (PCPV) both of which infect cattle; the type species, Orf virus (OV) that causes contagious ectyma in sheep and goats and the parapoxvirus of New Zealand

A homologue of retroviral pseudoproteases in the parapoxvirus, orf virus
Virology, 1989The nucleotide sequence of a near-terminal region of orf virus DNA was determined. Examination of the sequence revealed an open reading frame encoding a peptide with significant amino acid homology to the pseudoprotease domains recently identified in a number of retroviruses including mouse mammary tumor virus, simian Mason-Pfizer virus, maedi-visna ...

Red squirrels and the parapoxvirus
Veterinary Nursing Journal, 2008The parapoxvirus is a member of the poxvirus family and it is only found in the British Isles. The incidence of parapoxvirus is highest in England and Wales. It was not discovered in Scotland until 2007 when the first five cases were isolated. The parapoxvirus is highly pathogenic in red squirrels.

Immunomodulation by virulence proteins of the parapoxvirus orf virus
Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 1999Three orf virus putative virulence proteins are described that exhibit immunomodulatory functions. The OVIFNR gene at the left terminus of the viral genome encodes an interferon resistance protein with homology to the E3L gene of vaccinia virus. OVIFNR functions by preventing a dsRNA-dependent kinase from inhibiting virus and cell protein synthesis as ...

Orf, a Human Parapoxvirus Infection
Despite being common worldwide, parapoxvirus infections are regarded as neglected zoonoses because their incidence is either unknown or grossly overestimated. In ruminants all throughout the world, parapoxvirus produces oral lesions and infectious pustular dermatitis.Rujittika, Mungmunpuntipantip +1 more
