Transmission and Age Impact the Risk of Developing Febrile Malaria in Children with Asymptomatic Plasmodium falciparum Parasitemia

open access: yesJournal of Infectious Diseases, 2018
We present data from 3 cohorts in 1 geographical area with varying levels of malaria transmission. The results show that asymptomatic parasitemia is modified by transmission level and age, which alter the risk of developing febrile malaria.

Molecular Verification of New WorldMansonella perstansParasitemias [PDF]

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2017
We obtained ribosomal and mitochondrial DNA sequences from residents of Amazonas state, Brazil, with Mansonella parasitemias. Phylogenetic analysis of these sequences confirm that M. ozzardi and M. perstans parasites occur in sympatry and reveal the close relationship between M.

Reduced parasitemia observed with erythrocytes containing inositol hexaphosphate [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1988
Chemicals entrapped in erythrocytes by hypotonic hemolysis can be assessed for possible antiparasitic activity both in vivo and in vitro, regardless of whether they are able to diffuse into erythrocytes readily. Inositol hexaphosphate, a highly charged compound, produced a dramatic lowering of the percentage of cells infected by Babesia microti in vivo

Administration of artinm lectin reduces the severity of the acute phase infection with Trypanosoma cruzi

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, 2021
The acute phase of experimental Trypanosoma cruzi infection is associated with a strong inflammatory reaction, physiological changes, amastigote nests in tissues, and hematological alterations.

Amiodarone and Trypanosoma cruzi parasitemia in patients with Chagas disease [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cardiology, 2015
Chagas disease (ChD) is a main cause of cardiopathy in Latin America, causing thousands of deaths each year.(1) Amiodarone has been widely used as antiarrhythmic drug to prevent recurrences of malignant ventricular arrhythmias in patients with ChD.
