The general architecture of black fly–parasite interactions: Parasitism in lotic systems at a continental scale

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2021
We examined the general architecture of interactions between stream-dwelling larval black flies (Diptera: Simuliidae) and their common parasites in 1736 collections across North America. Mermithid nematodes (family Mermithidae), microsporidia (phylum Microsporidia), and the fungus Coelomycidium simulii Debaisieux (phylum Blastocladiomycota) infected ...

Evaluation Criteria of Parasitic Architecture

2023
It has been observed in the literature that examples of installations, sculptures or building elements and their annexes are stated as parasitic architectural products. These misinformation also indicate that parasite architecture features are issues that need to be studied and discussed. Research problem is "can the determined features, land use,

Syntactic Change in the Parallel Architecture: The Case of Parasitic Gaps

Cognitive Science, 2016
AbstractIn Jackendoff's Parallel Architecture, the well‐formed expressions of a language are licensed by correspondences between phonology, syntax, and conceptual structure. I show how this architecture can be used to make sense of the existence of parasitic gap constructions.

Methodological trial in sustainable architecture: Parasitic architecture

2021
As an approach of design in sustainable architecture, "Parasitic Architecture" presents an opportunity to the necessary spatial organization in daily life as a method to design the latest. The "Parasitic Architecture" method defined in the study is applied within the Architectural Design 1 class of Architecture Department in the 2018-2019 fall semester

Parasitic Architecture: Theory and Practice of the Postmodern Era

2017
Contemporary use of the term parasitic architecture refers to a wide scope of small scale architectonic “additions” to existing buildings. Legal and illegal, temporary and permanent, they all expand volumes of their hosts and sometimes develop their functions. The parasitic function, due to cities’ density, growing homelessness and immigration problems

The genetic architecture of disease resistance in plants and the maintenance of recombination by parasites

Molecular Ecology, 2001
AbstractParasites represent strong selection on host populations because they are ubiquitous and can drastically reduce host fitness. It has been hypothesized that parasite selection could explain the widespread occurrence of recombination because it is a coevolving force that favours new genetic combinations in the host.

Glycosylphosphatidylinositols and the surface architecture of parasitic protozoa

1996
Abstract A functionally diverse family of eukaryotic cell surface proteins are anchored to the plasma membrane via glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI) glycolipids (for recent reviews see Refs 1 and 2). These glycolipids constitute an alternative anchoring mechanism to the transmembrane polypeptide domain of type I membrane proteins.
