Strict patterns of co‐divergence have rarely been documented other than among organisms and their symbionts. In this paper, using a molecular approach, we inferr the population‐level phylogenies of a Mediterranean ant species Pheidole pallidula and its nest parasite, the obligate myrmecophilous beetle Paussus favieri. We then investigate the role of co‐

Syrphophilus bizonarius (Gravenhorst, 1829) (Hymenoptera) - new to Malta, with a revised check-list of the Ichneumonidae of the Maltese Islands [PDF]
The Ichneumonidae is a species rich family with 36,179 valid species recorded by yu & horStmAnn (1997). Ichneumonids utilise a diverse array of insects and arachnids as their hosts and play an essential role in the normal functioning of terrestrial ...

Iflaviruses in arthropods: when small is mighty
Many arthropod species harbor iflaviruses, which often cause covert (asymptomatic) infections, but may still affect host fitness. We review the impact of iflaviruses on arthropod fitness, immunity, behaviour as well as the iflavirus’ host range, transmission, tissue tropism and the interactions with other microorganisms within arthropods.

Olfactory information use for foraging in "Microplitis mediator", a parasitoid of the cabbage moth "Mamestra brassicae" [PDF]
My PhD project was at the interface between behavioural ecology and biological control, two disciplines that do not easily intertwine because of their divergent aims.

Primary parasitoid and hyperparasitoid guilds (hymenoptera) of grain aphid (Sitobion avenae F.) in northern Poland [PDF]
The aim of this study was to determine and compare the guilds of parasitic Hymenoptera associated with the grain aphid on rye and winter wheat in northern Poland. Of the seven species of primary parasitoids (Braconidae: Aphidiinae, Aphelinidae),

The mutualism between Tapinoma ibericum ants and Aphis gossypii disrupts the biological control exerted by Aphidius colemani in greenhouse peppers. Ant exclusion increased parasitism and the presence of most natural enemies, although Aphidoletes aphidimyza was more abundant with ants.

Habrobracon hebetor and Pteromalus cerealellae as Tools in Post-Harvest Integrated Pest Management
Consumers are increasingly demanding pesticide-free grain/legumes and processed foods. Additionally, there are more restrictions, or complete loss, of insecticides labelled for use in managing stored grain insects in post-harvest ecosystems.
