A revision of the Bracon Fabricius species in Wesmael’s collection deposited in Brussels (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Braconinae)

open access: yes, 2012
An account of the taxonomic position of the genus Bracon Fabricius, 1804 is presented. In his monograph Wesmael (1838: 7-58) made a survey of 48 nominal species of Bracon occurring in Belgium.

Degree of insecticide exposure and access to nectar impact survival of Trissolcus japonicus, a hymenopteran parasitoid, in flowering border strips

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
We applied three thiamethoxam spray treatments to buckwheat border strips: control (no nearby spray), drift (adjacent peach trees directly sprayed) and direct spray (buckwheat and peaches directly sprayed). Drift‐treated buckwheat received about 1.4% the amount of thiamethoxam as direct‐spray buckwheat. This amount has no lethal effects on parasitoids,

Semiochemical Exploitation of Host-Associated Cues by Seven Melittobia Parasitoid Species: Behavioral and Phylogenetic Implications

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2018
Chemical compounds (infochemicals or semiochemicals) play an important role both in intra-specific and inter-specific communication. For example, chemical cues appear to play a key role in the host selection process adopted by insect parasitoids.

Plant Domestication Affects the Oviposition Behavior and Performance of Ganaspis kimorum, a Parasitoid of Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
In this study, we investigated the effects of blueberry domestication on the oviposition behavior and performance of Ganaspis kimorum, a parasitoid of Drosophila suzukii. Domestication of blueberries reduced the oviposition‐searching behavior of the parasitoid but enhanced parasitoid performance, including offspring performance. Additionally, blueberry

Contrasting rates of mitochondrial molecular evolution in parasitic diptera and hymenoptera

open access: yes, 2002
© 2002 Society for Molecular Biology and EvolutionWe investigated the putative association between the parasitic lifestyle and an accelerated rate of mt genetic divergence, compositional bias, and gene rearrangement, employing a range of parasitic and ...

A New Experimental Setup to Study the Olfactory Behaviour of Trichogramma Egg Parasitoids

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We developed an experimental setup to assess odor‐induced egg‐laying behavior in tiny egg‐parasitoid wasps. This Y‐shaped olfactometer, coupled with an AI‐based image‐recognition model, automatically quantifies egg parasitism by Trichogramma wasps. Olfactory‐driven egg‐laying preferences were analyzed using Bayesian inference.

Impact of Host and Food Availability on Life‐History Traits in Six Egg Parasitoid Species of the Genus Trichogramma

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
In this study we measured the impact of access to sugar and hosts on the longevity and fecundity of six Trichogramma species: T. cacoeciae, T. chilonis, T. minutum, T. leptoparameron, T. pintoi and T. sibericum. The impact of food differed among species, but there was a general tendency of increased life expectancy and potential fecundity with sugar ...

Parasitoid load affects plant fitness in a tritrophic system

open access: yes, 2008
Plants attacked by herbivorous insects emit volatile compounds that attract predators or parasitoids of the herbivores. Plant fitness increases when these herbivorous insects are parasitized by solitary parasitoids, but whether gregarious koinobiont ...

Comparative Toxicity of Bordeaux Mixture by Ingestion and Cuticular Contact Under Climate Change Conditions on Trichogramma cordubensis

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
In the face of environmental contamination to copper, mainly resulting from frequent copper‐based fungicide applications, it is crucial to understand the side effects of these pesticides on non‐target organisms to improve pest management. Trichogramma cordubensis, used as a biological control agent against grape berry moths in vineyards, shows strongly
