Chondrocalcinosis after parathyroidectomy. [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the Rheumatic Diseases, 1976
In this retrospective study of 57 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism who underwent parathyroidectomy, the overall incidence of chondrocalcinosis was 40%. Neither joint symptoms nor chondrocalcinosis regressed after the operation. In several patients the condition appeared to deteriorate both clinically and radiologically after the operation ...

Selection of DNA Aptamers Against Parathyroid Hormone for Electrochemical Impedimetric Biosensor System Development

open access: yesBiotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, Volume 72, Issue 5, Page 1351-1362, October 2025.
ABSTRACT This work presents the pioneering development of an aptamer‐based electrochemical biosensor for real‐time monitoring of parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, with a focus on intraoperative assessment during parathyroid surgery. It introduces, for the first time, the selection and characterization of aptamers targeting distinct segments of the PTH ...

Video‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery for ectopic mediastinal parathyroid adenoma

open access: yesBJS Open, 2019
Background Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), caused by an ectopic mediastinal parathyroid adenoma, is uncommon. In the past, when the adenoma was not accessible from the neck, median sternotomy was advocated for safe and successful parathyroidectomy ...

Hypercalcemia Secondary to Hyperparathyroidism Mimicking Eclampsia During Postpartum Period in a Young Hypertensive Woman: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT We report a rare case of hyperparathyroidism due to parathyroid adenoma causing hypercalcemia, presenting as a generalized prolonged seizure on the seventh postpartum day mimicking eclampsia. Eclampsia developing on the seventh postpartum day in a woman without features of impending eclampsia is rare.

Changes in bone mineral density after parathyroidectomy in patients with moderate to severe primary hyperparathyroidism

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2020
Objective Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is relatively common in China and results in severe damage to the skeletal system. This study aimed to investigate changes in bone mineral density (BMD) over 2 years in patients with PHPT after ...

Intact parathyroid hormone levels localize causative glands in persistent or recurrent renal hyperparathyroidism: A retrospective cohort study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Persistent or recurrent renal hyperparathyroidism may occur after total parathyroidectomy and transcervical thymectomy with forearm autograft under continuous stimulation due to uremia. Parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels may reflect persistent or recurrent

Transient hypercortisolism and symptomatic hyperthyroidism associated to primary hyperparathyroidism in an elderly patient: case report and literature review. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is often found on routine blood tests, at a relatively asymptomatic stage. However many studies suggest different systemic effects related to PHPT, which could be enhanced by an abnormal cortisol release due

Prevalence of Esophageal Webs in Patients Undergoing Direct Laryngoscopy

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 135, Issue 10, Page 3594-3599, October 2025.
PES webs may be more common than what is traditionally cited in the literature. The prevalence of PES webs in this retrospective cohort study was found to be 34%. Webs may be more likely in patients with a history of irradiation to the head and neck, and only one‐third of patients with a PES web in our cohort had dysphagia symptoms.
