Prevalence of Spiroplasma and interaction with wild Glossina tachinoides microbiota
Tsetse flies (Diptera: Glossinidae) are vectors of the tropical neglected diseases sleeping sickness in humans and nagana in animals. The elimination of these diseases is linked to control of the vector.

The processes that govern how environmental microbes assemble across the tissues within mosquitoes remain poorly resolved. We use ecological network analyses to examine how environmental bacteria assemble to form bacteriomes among Aedes albopictus host tissues.

This study evaluated seasonal and geographical variations in the microbial community of the two major malaria vectors (Anopheles gambiae and Anopheles coluzzii). Overall, 97 bacterial taxa were detected across all mosquito samples, with 86 of these shared between dry and wet seasons in both localities and species.

We mechanistically investigated the behavior of honeybees symbionts fructophilic lactobacilli under the exposure to agrochemicals and plant secondary metabolites ingested by honeybees as part of their diet. The effects of exposure to agrochemicals and plant secondary metabolites were assessed both on planktonic cells and sessile communities of three ...

New weapons to fight malaria transmission: A historical view
Abstract The stagnation of our fight against malaria in recent years, mainly due to the development of mosquito insecticide resistance, argues for the urgent development of new weapons. The dramatic evolution of molecular tools in the last few decades led to a better understanding of parasite–mosquito interactions and coalesced in the development of ...

Associations between Afrotropical bats, eukaryotic parasites, and microbial symbionts
Abstract Skin is the largest mammalian organ and the first defensive barrier against the external environment. The skin and fur of mammals can host a wide variety of ectoparasites, many of which are phylogenetically diverse, specialized, and specifically adapted to their hosts.

Green Nano‐Biotechnology: A New Sustainable Paradigm to Control Dengue Infection
Dengue is a growing mosquito‐borne viral disease prevalent in 128 countries, while 3.9 billion people are at high risk of acquiring the infection. With no specific treatment available, the only way to mitigate the risk of dengue infection is through controlling of vector, i.e., Aedes aegypti.

Assessment of genetically engineered Trabulsiella odontotermitis as a ‘Trojan Horse’ for paratransgenesis in termites [PDF]
BACKGROUND: The Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus is an invasive urban pest in the Southeastern USA. Paratransgenesis using a microbe expressed lytic peptide that targets the termite gut protozoa is currently being developed for the ...

Mosquito-Borne Diseases Emergence/Resurgence and How to Effectively Control It Biologically
Deadly pathogens and parasites are transmitted by vectors and the mosquito is considered the most threatening vector in public health, transmitting these pathogens to humans and animals. We are currently witnessing the emergence/resurgence in new regions/
