ABSTRACT Background Accessing brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be challenging, especially for underserved patients, which may lead to disparities in neurological diagnosis. Method This mixed‐methods study enrolled adults with one of four neurological disorders: mild cognitive impairment or dementia of the Alzheimer type, multiple sclerosis ...

Symmetries in trees and parking functions
The author gives two new proofs of the following fact first discovered by Gessel: in the set of rooted labeled trees of \(n+1\) vertices rooted at the smallest vertex, the number of trees with \(a\) descents and \(b+1\) leaves equals the number of trees with \(b\) descents and \(a+1\) leaves (a descent is a vertex whose label is greater than at least ...

ABSTRACT Objective Neurochemical levels measured by brain MR spectroscopy (MRS) have been proposed as endpoints for clinical trials in early‐stage spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) trials. We tested their trial‐readiness by quantifying neurochemicals in three affected brain regions in early‐stage cohorts of SCA2 and SCA3, examining their reproducibility in ...

Stanley recently introduced the shifted parking function symmetric function $SH_n$, which is the shiftification of Haiman's parking function symmetric function $PF_n$. The function $SH_n$ lives in the subalgebra of symmetric functions generated by odd power sums.

Trajectories of Physical Function in Canadian Children With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Objective We describe trajectories of physical function in children newly diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and identify trajectories with persisting functional impairments and associated baseline characteristics. Methods We included patients enrolled in the Canadian Alliance of Pediatric Rheumatology Investigators (CAPRI) Registry ...

Nonhomogeneous Parking Functions and Noncrossing Partitions
For each skew shape we define a nonhomogeneous symmetric function, generalizing a construction of Pak and Postnikov. In two special cases, we show that the coefficients of this function when expanded in the complete homogeneous basis are given in terms of the (reduced) type of $k$-divisible noncrossing partitions. Our work extends Haiman's notion of a
