Patent foramen ovale in trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias and hemicrania continua: a non-specific pathophysiological occurrence? Foramen oval patente em cefaleias trigêmino-autonômicas e hemicrania contínua: uma ocorrência fisiopatológica não específica?

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2010
Patent foramen ovale (PFO), a relatively common abnormality in adults, has been associated with migraine. Few studies also linked PFO with cluster headache (CH).

Cancer pain: current practice and emerging targets

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Cancer pain (CP) arises from a complex interplay between the tumour and its microenvironment. Many patients experience a mixed pain phenotype that encompasses nociceptive, neuropathic and neuroinflammatory mechanisms, and vary across tumour type and disease stage. Despite decades of intensive research, the mainstay of cancer pain treatment is still non‐

Facial paroxysmal hemicrania associated with the menstrual cycle

open access: yesCephalalgia Reports, 2019
Paroxysmal hemicrania (PH) is a rare trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia (TAC) which is usually not associated with the menstrual cycle and usually affects the first trigeminal branch. We present a 47-year-old female patient with a facial variant of PH. For

Orofacial pain disorder or trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia? Insights into pathophysiology and implications in medicine and dentistry

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
There are some headache disorders known as trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias (TACs). When these “headaches” are localized in the mid‐face region, they are known as “trigeminal autonomic orofacial pains” (TAOPs), and they can mimic other types of face pains including dental pain, which puts the patient at risk of receiving treatments that are incorrect.
