The correlation between partial discharges (PD) and gassing in insulating liquids

10th International Conference on Conduction and Breakdown in Dielectric Liquids, 2002
The authors report on investigations performed to determine the relationship between PD parameters and the dissolved gas generated by partial discharges in mineral-based oil. The PD activity of mineral-based oil is shown to depend upon many parameters, including the influence of the standing time between the filling of the test vessel and the switching

Electric-Field-Dominated Partial Discharge in Medium Voltage SiC Power Module Packaging: Model, Mechanism, Reshaping, and Assessment

IEEE transactions on power electronics, 2022
Benefiting from the high breakdown voltage of the silicon carbide (SiC) material, the medium voltage SiC power module has made an unprecedented breakthrough, which is regarded as a promising route for the high voltage converter.

Experiences in on-site partial discharge measurements and prospects for PD monitoring

2008 International Conference on Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis, 2008
With four case studies (dry-type transformer, power transformer, GIS, generator) this paper describes the principle of synchronous multi-channel PD measurements and its benefits for PD data evaluation. With respect to monitoring the tracing of a charge value as QIEC over the measuring time is not sufficient to assess the PD activity of an HV apparatus.

Partial discharge. VI: PD testing of printed circuit boards

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1991
For pt.V see ibid., vol.7, no.2, p.28 et seq. (1991). The results of a research program concerned with applying partial-discharge (PD) testing to the nondestructive evaluation of the dielectric characteristics of coated printed circuit board (PCB) systems that must meet the high-voltage dielectric test requirements of low-voltage equipment are reported.

Analysis of Internal Partial Discharge Based on PD Current Waveform

2008 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2008
The analysis of partial discharge (PD) phenomenon to cause long-term degradation of electrical insulation systems is essential to development of electrical insulation technology. The PD pattern on the relation between PD magnitude and the phase of applied voltage is well known one of the electrical insulation diagnosis methods for high voltage ...

Design of an Effective Antenna for Partial Discharge Detection in Insulation Systems of Inverter-fed Motors

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2022
Partial discharge (PD) measurements under repetitive impulse voltages are critical for the qualification of inverter-fed motor insulation systems. Severe electromagnetic interference due to high frequency switching from power electronic devices can cause

Partial discharge. VIII. PD testing of solid dielectric cable

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1991
For pt.VII see ibid., vol.7, no.4, p.9 (1991). The development of solid dielectric cable is discussed and its potential defects are described. Limitations to partial discharge (PD) measurement and testing are discussed, and its use for detecting cavities (also referred to as voids), which are probably the most common defect in solid dielectric cable ...

Partial Discharge Behaviors in Power Modules Under Square Pulses With Ultrafast dv/dt

IEEE transactions on power electronics, 2021
The unprecedented high-speed switching of wide bandgap power devices may change the partial discharge (PD) behaviors of power modules, busbars, and loads.

Partial discharges in HV machines; initial considerations for a PD specification

IEE Proceedings A Science, Measurement and Technology, 1993
Partial discharge (PD) specifications exist for all types of electrical equipment except motors and generators. Whereas specifications essentially require that the equipment is discharge-free the stator conductor bar insulation of the motors and generators under consideration is micaceous and has excellent PD resistance.

Partial Discharge Monitoring of Medium Voltage Switchgears: Self-Condition Assessment Using an Embedded Bushing Sensor

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2022
Condition assessment of Medium Voltage switchgears requires effective, but inexpensive solutions to become a common practice. On the other hand, failure of a switchgear component can cause cascade effects and outage of other apparatus, in addition to ...
