Completion of a partial integral matrix to a unimodular matrix
AbstractWe first characterize submatrices of a unimodular integral matrix. We then prove that if n entries of an n×n partial integral matrix are prescribed and these n entries do not constitute a row or a column, then this matrix can be completed to a unimodular matrix.

Matrix Rationalization via Partial Orders
A preference matrix $M$ has an entry for each pair of candidates in an election whose value $p_{ij}$ represents the proportion of voters that prefer candidate $i$ over candidate $j$. The matrix is rationalizable if it is consistent with a set of voters whose preferences are total orders.

On the completion of a partial integral matrix to a unimodular matrix
A \textit{partial} \(n \times n\) integer matrix \(A\) is one in which some entries are indeterminates. A free diagonal for such a matrix is an \(n\)-tuple \(a_{1,\sigma(1)},\dots, a_{n,\sigma(n)}\) for a permutation \(\sigma\). The author shows that if \(A\) has a free diagonal, then there is an evaluation of the indeterminate entries that gives a ...

Matrix identities on weighted partial Motzkin paths
We give a combinatorial interpretation of a matrix identity on Catalan numbers and the sequence $(1, 4, 4^2, 4^3, ...)$ which has been derived by Shapiro, Woan and Getu by using Riordan arrays. By giving a bijection between weighted partial Motzkin paths with an elevation line and weighted free Motzkin paths, we find a matrix identity on the number of ...

Coded Sparse Matrix Computation Schemes That Leverage Partial Stragglers [PDF]
Distributed matrix computations over large clusters can suffer from the problem of slow or failed worker nodes (called stragglers) which can dominate the overall job execution time.

Novel Bäcklund Transformations for Integrable Equations
In this paper, we construct a new matrix partial differential equation having a structure and properties which mirror those of a matrix fourth Painlevé equation recently derived by the current authors.
