Effect of annealing of ZnSe:Cr crystals in Bi(Zn) melt on the intensity of radiation bands of Cr ions

open access: yesMoldavian Journal of the Physical Sciences, 2010
The photoluminescence in visible and near-IR spectral range of ZnSe:Cr as-grown and annealed in Bi(Zn) melt crystals was investigated at room temperature.

Stepwise magma migration and accumulation processes and their effect on extracted melt chemistry [PDF]

open access: yesEstonian Journal of Earth Sciences, 2009
Numerical and analogue models suggest that melt production, its segregation from the solid matrix and subsequent transport and accumulation are highly dynamic and stepwise processes exhibiting scale invariant patterns in both time and length scales ...

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Non-equilibrium melting of partially differentiated asteroids: insights from partial melting experiments on L6 chondrite DAV01001

open access: yes, 2022
<p>Planetary differentiation in small bodies is believed to be ruled by several partial end-states that were dominated by low degrees of partial melting and melt segregation, before arriving at the formation of rocky planets. Having a better understanding of non-equilibrium melting processes in undifferentiated chondritic materials is ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Crustal melting and continent uplift by mafic underplating at convergent boundaries

open access: yesNature Communications
The thick crust of the southern Tibetan and central Andean plateaus includes high-conductivity, low-velocity zones ascribed to partial melt. The melt origin and effect on plateau uplift remain speculative, in particular if plateau uplift happens before ...

Recent ice cap snowmelt in Russian High Arctic and anti-correlation with late summer sea ice extent

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2014
Glacier surface melt dynamics throughout Novaya Zemlya (NovZ) and Severnaya Zemlya (SevZ) serve as a good indicator of ice mass ablation and regional climate change in the Russian High Arctic.
