Why human connection is the true metric of research success
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Periodicity Algorithms for Partial Words [PDF]
In this paper we investigate several periodicity-related algorithms for partial words. First, we show that all periods of a partial word of length n are determined in O(n log n) time, and provide algorithms and data structures that help us answer in constant time queries regarding the periodicity of their factors. For this we need a O(n2) preprocessing

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Approche empirique de l’intercompréhension : répertoires, processus et résultats
In this contribution we discuss a study of interlingual inferencing processes as the ones typically applied in intercomprehension tasks. Based on the assumption that bi- and multilingual competence has to be regarded as a dynamic and holistic ensemble of

Partial Word Order Freezing in Dutch [PDF]
Dutch allows for variation as to whether the first position in the sentence is occupied by the subject or by some other constituent, such as the direct object. In particular situations, however, this commonly observed variation in word order is ‘frozen’ and only the subject appears in first position.

TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Method of Lines With Haar Wavelet For Solving Parabolic Differential Equation [PDF]
In this paper we present a theoretical framework and numerical comparisons for a wavelet-based algorithm associated with both method of lines and wavelets for solving some partial differential equations.

Fast Algorithm for Partial Covers in Words [PDF]
A factor $u$ of a word $w$ is a cover of $w$ if every position in $w$ lies within some occurrence of $u$ in $w$. A word $w$ covered by $u$ thus generalizes the idea of a repetition, that is, a word composed of exact concatenations of $u$. In this article we introduce a new notion of $α$-partial cover, which can be viewed as a relaxed variant of cover ...
