From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

A compact X-ray source via fast microparticle streams

open access: yesCommunications Engineering
The spatiotemporal resolution of diagnostic X-ray images is limited by the erosion and rupture of conventional stationary and rotating anodes of X-ray tubes from extreme density of input power and thermal cycling of the anode material.

Mathematical modelling of seed-mediated size-specific growth of spherical silver nanoparticles using Azadirachta indica leaf extract

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University for Science, 2020
Spherical silver nanoparticles of required size were synthesized employing a seed-mediated approach using leaf extract of Azadirachta indica. Reaction pH was used to manipulate the rate of reduction of the precursor salt for achieving a fast rate of ...

Non-diffusive, non-local transport in fluids and plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2010
A review of non-diffusive transport in fluids and plasmas is presented. In the fluid context, non-diffusive chaotic transport by Rossby waves in zonal flows is studied following a Lagrangian approach. In the plasma physics context the problem of interest

Wave-particle interaction: from plasma physics to the free-electron laser

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2005
We discuss the analogies between two classical models of the single-pass free electron laser dynamics and of the beam-wave plasma instability. Moreover, a formal bridge between the two areas of investigation is established. This connection is here exploited to derive a reduced Hamiltonian formulation for the saturated regime of the free electron laser.

Origins of ion energy distribution function (IEDF) in high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) plasma discharge [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
The ion energy distribution function (IEDF) in high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) discharges was studied by plasma sampling energy-resolved mass spectroscopy.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Density profiles in stellarators: an overview of particle transport, fuelling and profile shaping studies at TJ-II

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
We provide an overview of activities carried out at the TJ-II stellarator for improving our understanding of- and developing plasma physics models for particle density profiles in stellarators.

Origin of some anisotropic tailward flows in the plasma sheet [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2002
We use a test particle model to explore anisotropy and fast flows in the central plasma sheet (CPS) that are a consequence of plasma sheet boundary layer (PSBL) ion beam dynamics.

Magnetotail dipolarization and associated current systems observed by Cluster and Double Star [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A dipolarization and its associated current systems are studied using Cluster, Double Star TC1, and ground-based observations. The Cluster spacecraft are located approximately 16 RE downtail near 0030 LT.
