Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Azimuthal anisotropy of jet particles in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at s NN $$ \sqrt{{\textrm{s}}_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 5.02 TeV

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
The azimuthal anisotropy of particles associated with jets (jet particles) at midrapidity is measured for the first time in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at s NN $$ \sqrt{{\textrm{s}}_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 5.02 TeV down to transverse momentum (p T) of 0.5 GeV ...

Phase Separation and Pairing Fluctuations in Oxide Materials

open access: yesCondensed Matter, 2020
The microscopic mechanism of charge instabilities and the formation of inhomogeneous states in systems with strong electron correlations is investigated.

Coherent optical control of correlation waves of spins in semiconductors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We calculate the dynamical fluctuation spectrum of electronic spins in a semiconductor under a steady-state illumination by light containing polarization squeezing correlations. Taking into account quasi-particle lifetime and spin relaxation for this non-

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

(Machine) learning to do more with less

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
Determining the best method for training a machine learning algorithm is critical to maximizing its ability to classify data. In this paper, we compare the standard “fully supervised” approach (which relies on knowledge of event-by-event truth-level ...

Strong Correlations Between Fluctuations and Response in Aging Transport

open access: yes, 2006
Once the problem of ensemble averaging is removed, correlations between the response of a single molecule to an external driving field $F$, with the history of fluctuations of the particle, become detectable.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Multiplicity-dependent jet modification from di-hadron correlations in pp collisions at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
Short-range correlations between charged particles are studied via two-particle angular correlations in pp collisions at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV.

Energy and system size dependence of charged particle elliptic flow and $v_2/\eps$ scaling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report measurements of charged particle elliptic flow %($v_2$) at mid-rapidity in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=62$ and 200 GeV. Using correlations between main STAR TPC and Forward TPCs ensures minimal bias due to non-flow effects ...
