Growth of Nanosize and Colloid Particles by Controlled Addition of Singlets

open access: yes, 2001
We outline a theoretical framework for estimating the evolution of the particle size distribution in colloid and nanoparticle synthesis, when the primary growth mode is by externally controlled addition of singlet building blocks.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Performance bounds for particle filters using the optimal proposal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Particle filters may suffer from degeneracy of the particle weights. For the simplest "bootstrap" filter, it is known that avoiding degeneracy in large systems requires that the ensemble size must increase exponentially with the variance of the ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Particle-size distribution and packing fraction of geometric random packings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper addresses the geometric random packing and void fraction of polydisperse particles. It is demonstrated that the bimodal packing can be transformed into a continuous particle-size distribution of the power law type.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION APPLIED TO MILK POWDER REHYDRATION

open access: yesQuímica Nova
Besides increasing shelf life of fluid milk, milk powder has physical and functional properties that allow it to be used as ingredient. The rehydration process is complex and happens in four steps: wettability, sinkability, dispersibility and solubility.

Evaluation of particle size distribution of granular blasting materials based on the fractal theory

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
The particle size distribution of granular blasting materials has a vital influence on the filling quality of earth-rockfill dams. The engineering experience-based method used to evaluate the particle size distribution has shortcomings at both the ...

Polymerization of propylene in a minireactor: Effect of polymerization conditions on particle morphology [PDF]

open access: yesPolyolefins Journal, 2018
Gas phase polymerization of propylene was carried out in a semi-batch minireactor using a commercially supported Ziegler–Natta (ZN) catalyst. The influence of variables including monomer partial pressure, external electron donor, reaction temperature and
