Initiation of human parturition
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1980Arachidonic acid (the precursor of prostaglandins of the 2-series and related compounds) is released from phosphatidylinositol in a reaction sequence catalyzed by three enzymes, i.e., phospholipase C, diacylglycerol lipase, and monoacylglycerol lipase. Diacylglycerol, an intermediate in this pathway, was found in human amnion tissue.

The role of oxytocin in parturition
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 2003Oxytocin and the oxytocin receptor have two important roles in labour. Evidence in all mammalian species suggests that neurohypophysical oxytocin plays a role in the expulsive phase and, although there are less supporting data, a role for oxytocin in the initiation of labour is likely.

Induction of Parturition in the Ewe
Journal of Animal Science, 1980One-hundred and seventeen ewes were used in a study of induction of parturition. Ewes were treated with either 2 mg flumethasone (FLU), 15 mg prostaglandin F2 alpha-THAM salt (PGF) or physiological saline (control) on day 141 of gestation, as determined by dates of marking by rams.
