The determinants of slave mortality rates on the middle passage

Explorations in Economic History, 1982
An economic model of the middle passage of the African-American slave trade is presented. The model is used to explain why previous researchers have obtained unsatisfactory results when analyzing the factors that contributed to slave mortality rates which were higher than those observed on other ocean voyages at the time.

Rates and mean first passage times

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1997
The relation between mean first passage times T and transition rates F in noisy dynamical systems with metastahle states is investigated. It is shown that the inverse mean first passage time to the separatrix of the noiseless system may deviate from twice the rate not only because in general the deterministic separatrix is not the locus in the state ...

The rate of time's passage

Analysis, 2009
1. Many philosophers say that time has a kind of flow or passage that distinguishes it from space. Future times and events become less future; past ones become more past; persisting things grow older. The world is caught up in a process of purely chronological change. This is the dynamic view of time.

Monitoring of Schools and Colleges of Pharmacy Based on NAPLEX Passage Rate

Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning, 2023
Abstract Introduction We have evaluated two approaches of monitoring schools and colleges of pharmacy based on North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination® (NAPLEX®) passage rates. Historically, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) has cited programs based on achieving a ...

Digestibility and Rate of Passage by Lambs of Water-Stressed Alfalfa

Journal of Animal Science, 1987
Two lamb digestion experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of alfalfa [Medicago sativa (L.)] grown under varying levels of water deficiency (stress) on the rate of passage and digestibility of various fibrous components. Experiment 1 consisted of a randomized complete block design in which 12 Suffolk X Hampshire crossbred wethers averaging 40
