Passive security threats and consequences in IEEE 802.11 wireless mesh networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is ubiquitous emerging broadband wireless network. However, the open wireless medium, multi-hop multi-radio architecture and ad-hoc connectivity amongst end-users are such characteristics which increases the ...

Passivity, complete passivity, and virtual temperatures [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2015
We give a simple and intuitive proof that the only states which are completely passive, i.e., those states from which work cannot be extracted even with infinitely many copies, are Gibbs states at positive temperatures. The proof makes use of the idea of virtual temperatures, i.e., the association of temperatures to pairs of energy levels (transitions).

Intercompartmental communication in senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Senescent cells experience structural changes in the plasma membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, lysosomes, nucleus, and cytoskeleton. These alterations disrupt crosstalk among cellular compartments, impairing vesicular trafficking, contact sites, and molecular flow.

Efficiency Comparison of Thermal Insulation Schemes in the Hinged Ventilated Facades Systems

open access: yesAcademia: Архитектура и строительство, 2018
The article deals with the problems associated with the quality of thermal insulation mounting in hinged ventilated facades, and first of all associated with the gaps between thermal insulation panels. According to STO NOSTROY 2.14.67-2012 "Hinged facade

Forest, Crop and Grassland Leaf Area Index Estimation Using Remote Sensing: A Review of Current Research Methods, Sensors, Estimation Models and Accomplishments

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Leaf area index (LAI) is an important parameter in plant ecophysiology; it can be used to quantify foliage directly and as a measure of the photosynthetic active area and, thus, the area subject to transpiration in vegetation.

Life‐Threatening Bradycardia in Anti‐NMDA‐Receptor Encephalitis and a Novel Use for Permanent Pacing

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pediatric anti‐NMDA receptor encephalitis (pNMDARE) is an autoantibody‐mediated disorder that can cause severe autonomic dysfunction, including symptomatic bradycardia and asystole. Dysautonomia can last for years, making it very challenging to manage.

First-Principles Study on Various Point Defects Formed by Hydrogen and Helium Atoms in Tungsten

open access: yesScience and Technology of Nuclear Installations, 2017
The different point defects formed by two hydrogen atoms or two helium atoms in tungsten were investigated through first-principles calculation. The energetically favorable site for a hydrogen atom is tetrahedral interstitial site while substitutional ...

Active and passive fields face to face

open access: yes, 2004
The statistical properties of active and passive scalar fields transported by the same turbulent flow are investigated. Four examples of active scalar have been considered: temperature in thermal convection, magnetic potential in two-dimensional ...

On how 'middle' plus 'associative/reciprocal' became 'passive' in the Bantu A70 languages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper we show that the Bantu A70 languages did not preserve the passive morpheme inherited from Proto-Bantu (PB), but developed a new suffix. It is a morpheme that is compound in origin, consisting of two verbal derivation suffixes which still ...

Direct Passive Navigation [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1987
In this correspondence, we show how to recover the motion of an observer relative to a planar surface from image brightness derivatives. We do not compute the optical flow as an intermediate step, only the spatial and temporal brightness gradients (at a minimum of eight points).
