A Computational Journey Toward an Optimal Design for Metamaterial Epicardial Passive Sleeves

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 4, 26 January 2026.
Passive epicardial sleeves are evaluated in 3D in‐silico heart models to reveal how sleeve geometry, stiffness, anisotropy, and metamaterial architecture influence cardiac mechanics after myocardial infarction. A continuum‐to‐auxetic design exploration shows that region‐specific mechanical engagement can reduce infarct bulging and modulate torsional ...

Cyclic Peptide–Polymer Conjugate Nanotubes for Delivery of SN‐38 in Treatment of Colorectal Cancer Model

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 4, 26 January 2026.
This study develops cyclic peptidepolymer conjugate nanotubes with hydrophobic, drug‐rich cores to enhance drug loading and stability, and demonstrates their responsive disassembly, pharmacokinetics, and anti‐tumour efficacy in colorectal cancer models using the anticancer drug SN‐38.

Planning for the End of Life for People with Dementia - Part 2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This publication is a discussion about additional end-of-life options which may become legally available at some time in the future, i.e., assisted death (usually called euthanasia or assisted suicide).

Constructing Dual‐Atomic Fe─Fe Sites Nanozyme for Targeted Osteoarthritis Therapy through Mitigating Oxidative Stress and Cartilage Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 1, 5 January 2026.
A novel bimetallic nanozyme (Fe2–NCs) with well‐defined Fe–Fe active sites is synthesized through a host–guest coordination strategy, which exhibits an exceptional therapeutic efficacy in osteoarthritis therapy. Experimental and theoretical analyses uncover the intrinsic catalytic mechanism at the atomic level, offering fundamental insights and design ...

New experimental model of exposure to environmental tobacco smoke [PDF]

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2013
PURPOSE: To describe a new model to passive smoking for rodents. METHODS: Twenty rats were distributed into two study groups (N=10): control group (CG), that was not exposed to tobacco smoke and used as normal standard for biochemical and histological ...

An Active, Multimodal Neural Interface for Real‐Time Monitoring of Cortical Electrical, Thermal, and Optical Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 3, 14 January 2026.
A chronically implantable neural interface enables real‐time multimodal monitoring of electrical, thermal, and photodynamic activities. Incorporating silicon‐based transistor arrays with a functional multiplexing strategy and resistive sensors, the device delivers high‐fidelity recordings with long‐term stability and biocompatibility.

Theory of Peaceful End of Life: Analysis and Evaluation Using the Whall Framework

open access: yesThe International Journal of Health Planning and Management, Volume 41, Issue 1, Page 182-192, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim This study aims to analyse and evaluate the theory of peaceful end of life to determine its relevance and applicability in nursing research, education and practice, particularly in the areas of palliative care and end‐of‐life care. Methods We conducted a theoretical‐reflexive study using specific criteria for analysing and evaluating ...

Calorie Restriction Attenuates Transcriptional Aging Signatures in White Matter Oligodendrocytes and Immune Cells of the Monkey Brain

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2026.
Our single nuclei RNA sequencing data reveal that long‐term calorie restriction in aged rhesus monkeys reduces neuroinflammation and preserves glial metabolism. In oligodendrocytes, calorie restriction attenuates an immune signature and promotes axonal proximity, while reducing a myelin‐laden microglia population.

Pelagic Larval Duration and Population Structure of a Widely Distributed Amphidromous Fish in the Indo‐Pacific Region

open access: yesEcology of Freshwater Fish, Volume 35, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Freshwater habitats in the Indo‐Pacific Islands are colonised by amphidromous fish, which undergo a marine larval phase while the rest of the life cycle takes place in the riverine habitat. These fish are mainly represented by Gobiiformes. Among these, Stenogobius genivittatus (Valenciennes, 1837) is widely distributed in the Indo‐Pacific ...

Swimming Behavioural Responses and Impingement Risks of Larval Golden Perch to Fish Protection Screen Approach Velocities

open access: yesEcological Management &Restoration, Volume 27, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Fish protection screens are increasingly being considered as management tools to prevent significant numbers of fish being extracted from Australian rivers at water diversions. Australian design standards specify an approach velocity (the perpendicular flow 8 cm in front of the screen) of 0.1 m.s−1.
