Numerical Study of Cylinder Drag Coefficient Reduction Using Passive Flow Control [PDF]
In this study, the cylinder drag coefficient is reduced by using passive flow control. Installing a flat plate in two heights and different longitudinal distances in upstream flow increases the upstream flow momentum of the cylinder, leading to the ...

Control of Turbulent Flow over a Circular Cylinder Using Tabs
In this study, we investigate tabs applied to turbulent flow over a circular cylinder for the reductions of the mean drag and lift fluctuations. Tabs are small and thin passive devices attached to the upper and lower surfaces of a circular cylinder near ...

Comparison of Passive Flow Control Methods for a Cavity in Transonic Flow [PDF]
A comparative study of different passive control techniques was conducted on a cavity with a length of 320 mm with length-to-depth and length-to-width ratios of five and two, respectively. The tests were conducted at a freestream Mach number of 0.71. Both leading-edge and trailing-edge modifications were included in the studies.

Active and Passive Control of Flow Past a Cavity
Flow past open cavities is well known to give rise to highly coherent and self-sustained oscillations, leading to undesirable aeroacoustic resonance. Cavity flows are encountered not only in engineering applications but also our daily life, for example, the weapon bays, landing gears and wheel wells of aircrafts, in the depressions of submarine and ...

The control of the displacement of a passive particle in a point vortex flow
This work reports numerical explorations in advection of one passive tracer by point vortices living in the unbounded plane. The main objective is to find the energy-optimal displacement of one passive particle (point vortex with zero circulation) surrounded by N point vortices. The direct formulation of the corresponding control problems is presented.

Numerical Study of Combined Drag Reduction Bases on Vortex Generators and Riblets for the Ahmed Body using IDDES Methodology [PDF]
The flow fields around vehicle drag reduction devices are three-dimensional, complicated, and unsteady. Meanwhile, the small scale of the drag reduction device brings more challenges to the simulation. An Improved Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation (IDDES)
