Enhancement of the Nutritional Composition and Antioxidant Activities of Fruit Pomaces and Agro-Industrial Byproducts through Solid-State Fermentation for Livestock Nutrition: A Review

open access: yesFermentation
The abundance of fruit waste from the food industry and wineries, particularly peels, seeds, and other fruit pomace throughout the year, could lead to health and environmental hazards if not channelled into productive areas.

Comparison of pasture and concentrate finishing of Holstein Friesian, Aberdeen Angus × Holstein Friesian and Belgian Blue × Holstein Friesian steers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
peer-reviewedCrossbreeding Holstein Friesian dairy cows with both early and late maturing beef breed bulls is common in Ireland. This study concerned the comparison of spring-born Holstein Friesian (HF), Aberdeen Angus × Holstein Friesian (AA) and ...

Flexible Polypyrrole‐Based pH Sensors via Oxidative Chemical Vapor Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidative chemical vapor deposition (oCVD) of polypyrrole (PPy) thin films yields flexible, electrically conductive, and biocompatible pH sensors for monitoring on‐skin biological events. The highly sensitive, oCVD PPy skin‐conformal sensors enable real‐time, spatially resolved sensing of dynamic pH changes within physiologically relevant ranges (4–9 ...

Effect of concentrate feeding level in winter and turnout date to pasture in spring on biological and economical performance of weanling cattle in suckler beef production systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
peer-reviewedThree experiments were carried out to determine the effects of supplementary concentrate feeding level (Low, LC; High, HC) to grass silage and/or turnout date to pasture in spring (Early, ET; Late, LT) for a second grazing season on ...

Spiro‐Phenothiazine Hole‐Transporting Materials: Unlocking Stability and Scalability in Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorene‐functionalized spiro‐phenothiazine (PTZ‐Fl) exhibits strong Li+ affinity and thermal stability, enabling a PCE of 25.75% in small‐area cells and 22.07% in 25 cm2 modules. Under ISOS‐L3 conditions, PTZ‐Flbased devices retain over 80% efficiency after 1000 hours, demonstrating superior stability and scalability compared to spiro‐OMeTAD for next ...

Role of Liquid Composition in the Transient Liquid Assisted Growth of Superconducting YBa2Cu3O7‐δ Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The Y supersaturation in the [Ba‐Cu(I/II)‐O] transient liquid composition is the driving force toward YBCO nucleation and growth in TLAG. Tuning the initial (Ba:Cu) molar ratio in the ink composition determines the YBCO epitaxial nucleation through supersaturation control.
