Effects of inclusion of patauá, Oenocarpus bataua meal on elephant grass silage [PDF]

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 2020
Elephant grass silages have high moisture content, causing nutrient loss, mainly by effluent production. The use of moisture absorbent additives, such as patauá, Oenocarpus bataua meal, can be a strategy to reduce losses in these silages. The aim of this

Radiocarbon estimates of age and growth for a dominant Amazon palm species

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 55, Issue 1, Page 7-12, January 2023., 2023
We used destructive sampling to assess 14C‐calibrated age and growth of five individuals of Oenocarpus bataua Mart. (ARECACEAE) from 7.35‐21.6 m of total height. The largest individual was 59‐years old. Age decreased from the collar to the top of the aboveground stem and was positively correlated with number of leaf‐scars and height.

Canopy palm cover across the Brazilian Amazon forests mapped with airborne LiDAR data and deep learning

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 8, Issue 5, Page 601-614, October 2022., 2022
The use of airborne LiDAR data and deep learning allowed mapping more than 1.1 million canopy palm segments across 480 000 ha of forests with 80% accuracy, and roughly estimating 1.05 billion canopy palm segments in the Brazilian Amazon region. We identified a new hotspot of palm‐dominated forests in eastern Amazon (Pará state) in addition to other ...
