Infection of the umbilicus with an associated myositis of the para-umbilical area were the presenting symptoms. No symptoms were present previously which should have led one to suspect the existence of a patent omphalomesenteric duct in this individual.

THERE have been 134 cases of patent omphalomesenteric duct reported, which figure probably does not reflect its true incidence. Of this number, 30 have been complicated by ileal prolapse, with only four operative recoveries. Many of these reports were made before the advent of present-day surgical technics and antibiotic adjuncts.

The American Journal of Surgery, 1950Abstract Evagination of ileum through a patent omphalomesenteric duct has been reported twenty-eight times previous to this case report. Operation has been attempted fourteen times with three survivals. This case is one of a patent duct with evagination of ileum cured by early operation.
