Intra-, inter-, and extra-container path loss for shipping container monitoring systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This letter presents empirical path loss models for an environment of stacked shipping containers. Specifically, a system for wireless monitoring of containers is considered for which three different types of wireless links are identified, namely intra-,

RIS-Aided V2I–VLC for the Next-Generation Intelligent Transportation Systems in Mountain Areas

open access: yesPhotonics
Visible light communication (VLC) is considered to be one of the key technologies for advancing the next-generation intelligent transportation systems (ITSs). However, in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) VLC, the line-of-sight

Path Loss Modeling of Wireless Signals in Underground Tunnels

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation
The environmental characteristics of underground tunnels are very different from those of open spaces. Typical features of underground tunnels (sidewall roughness, metal conductors, tunnel inclinations, etc.) significantly affect signal propagation ...

Measurement and Analysis of Near-Ground Propagation Models under Different Terrains for Wireless Sensor Networks

open access: yesSensors, 2019
The propagation model is an essential component in the design and deployment of a wireless sensor network (WSN). Although much attention has been given to near-ground propagation models, few studies place the transceiver directly on the ground with the ...

Mucocutaneous disease activity and damage accrual in systemic lupus erythematosus: analyses from the Asia‐Pacific Lupus Collaboration longitudinal cohort study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective This research article aims to describe the prevalence, associations and health‐related quality‐of‐life (HRQoL) impact of mucocutaneous features of SLE. Methods Data from the Asia‐Pacific Lupus Collaboration cohort were analysed (2013‐2021). Mucocutaneous activity (MC‐A) items were rash, alopecia and mucosal ulcers; defined by the SLEDAI‐2K ...

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.
