Bicoloured Dyck Paths and the Contact Polynomial for $n$ Non-Intersecting Paths in a Half-Plane Lattice [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2003
In this paper configurations of $n$ non-intersecting lattice paths which begin and end on the line $y=0$ and are excluded from the region below this line are considered. Such configurations are called Hankel $n-$paths and their contact polynomial is defined by $\hat{Z}^{\cal{H}}_{2r}(n;\kappa)\equiv \sum_{c= 1}^{r+1} |{\cal H}_{2r}^{(n)}(c)|\kappa^c ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Evaluation of sealing characteristics of copper gasket using laser microscope with wide field of view

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
To quantitatively predict leakage rates through gasket/flange interface, it is important to observe contact conditions at seal surfaces because the leakage path consists of the non-contact portions between the flange and gasket surfaces.

Parametric Quasi-Static Study of the Effect of Misalignments on the Path of Contact, Transmission Error, and Contact Pressure of Crowned Spur and Helical Gear Teeth Using a Novel Rapidly Convergent Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Quasi-static modelling of non-conjugate contact of tooth-modified spur and helical gears has been studied at length, but existing models are hindered by convergence problems and require a brute-force numerical approach.

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Modular Critical Element Recycling Platform Using a Nanoporous Additively Manufactured Gyroid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A modular recycling platform integrates 3D‐printed nanoporous gyroid structures to enable efficient critical element recovery. This system utilizes a hierarchical architecture, combining macroscopic channels with polymerization‐induced nanoscale porosity. By systematically tuning structural wall thickness and resin formulation, the platform achieves an

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Hydrodynamics of the Binary Contact Path Process

open access: yes, 2019
In this paper we are concerned with the binary contact path process introduced in \cite{Gri1983} on the lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$ with $d\geq 3$. Our main result gives a hydrodynamic limit of the process, which is the solution to a heat equation. The proof of our result follows the strategy introduced in \cite{kipnis+landim99} to give hydrodynamic limit ...
