The Arabidopsis lectin receptor kinase LecRK-V.5 represses stomatal immunity induced by Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2012
Stomata play an important role in plant innate immunity by limiting pathogen entry into leaves but molecular mechanisms regulating stomatal closure upon pathogen perception are not well understood. Here we show that the Arabidopsis thaliana L-type lectin

rWTC‐MBTA Vaccine, Alone and Enhanced with Anti‐PD1, Elicits Immune Responses against CNS and Peripheral B‐Cell Lymphoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An autologous whole‐tumor‐cell vaccine (rWTC‐MBTA) is evaluated in murine CNS lymphoma. Subcutaneous vaccination activates dendritic cells, broadens T‐cell priming, and drives lymphocyte trafficking to brain tumors, producing durable tumor control. Longitudinal bioluminescence and adoptive‐transfer assays verify CNS engagement. Combination with anti‐PD‐

Functions of Calcium-Dependent Protein Kinases in Plant Innate Immunity

open access: yesPlants, 2014
An increase of cytosolic Ca2+ is generated by diverse physiological stimuli and stresses, including pathogen attack. Plants have evolved two branches of the immune system to defend against pathogen infections.

Effects of bacterial and viral pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) on multidrug resistance (MDR) transporters in brain endothelial cells of the developing human blood–brain barrier

open access: yesFluids and Barriers of the CNS, 2023
Abstract Background The multidrug resistance (MDR) transporters, P-glycoprotein (P-gp, encoded by ABCB1) and breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP/ABCG2) contribute to the blood–brain barrier (BBB), protecting the brain from drug exposure.

Gut Mycobiota‐Associated Tryptophan Catabolites Protect Against Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accumulating evidence suggests that the intestinal microbiota participates in the progression of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) through microbiota‐host interaction. However, the beneficial role of commensal mycobiota in MASLD progression remains poorly understood.

Role of MPK4 in pathogen-associated molecular pattern-triggered alternative splicing in Arabidopsis.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2020
Alternative splicing (AS) of pre-mRNAs in plants is an important mechanism of gene regulation in environmental stress tolerance but plant signals involved are essentially unknown.

Hijacking the Host Clock: A Nematode Effector Antagonizes Soybean Circadian Defense and Translation Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soybean employs its circadian clock, governed by GmCCA1, to rhythmically defend against soybean cyst nematodes. The pathogen retaliates by secreting the effector Hg4E02, which hijacks the clock to suppress defense and co‐opt the host's translation machinery for nutrient acquisition.

A Keratinocyte‐Mast Cell NF‐κB2/CXCL2/IL‐6 Amplification Loop Enhances Cutaneous Antifungal Defense Against C. albicans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mast cells (MCs), key innate immune sentinels at the host–environment interface, serve as primary responders to invading pathogens. However, their specific contribution to host defense against cutaneous Candida albicans (C. albicans) infection and their synergy with other immune and non‐immune cells remain poorly understood. Here, we show that

Altering Expression of Benzoic Acid/Salicylic Acid Carboxyl Methyltransferase 1 Compromises Systemic Acquired Resistance and PAMP-Triggered Immunity in Arabidopsis

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2010
Methyl salicylate (MeSA), which is synthesized in plants from salicylic acid (SA) by methyltransferases, has roles in defense against microbial and insect pests.

Transdermal Delivery of an mRNA‐Liposome Vaccine via Dissolving Microneedle to Preserve Vaccine Activity and Enhance Immune Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An mRNA‐liposome vaccine via dissolving microneedles (ML‐DMN) enables efficient skin‐targeted delivery while preserving mRNA integrity and allowing sustained antigen expression. Unlike intramuscular (IM) injection, ML‐DMN engages skin‐resident immune cells, activates antigen‐presenting cells (APCs), and induces strong T cell and cytokine responses at ...
