Soothing the Inflamed Brain: Effect of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs on Alzheimer's Disease Pathology

open access: yes, 2011
Epidemiological studies suggest that systemic use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can prevent or retard the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD).

The use of digital pathology and image analysis in clinical trials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Digital pathology and image analysis potentially provide greater accuracy, reproducibility and standardisation of pathology-based trial entry criteria and endpoints, alongside extracting new insights from both existing and novel features.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Natural language processing in pathology: a scoping review

open access: yes, 2016
Background Encoded pathology data are key for medical registries and analyses, but pathology information is often expressed as free text. Objective We reviewed and assessed the use of NLP (natural language processing) for encoding pathology documents ...

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Study on Online Teaching Practice of Early Clinical Pathology

open access: yesGuoji laonian yixue zazhi
Pathology is a bridge between basic medicine and clinical medicine, and pathology diagnosis is regarded as the "gold standard" of disease diagnosis. Therefore, undergraduate clinical medicine education should be "early clinical" .This paper mainly ...

Nevus-Associated Melanomas: Clinicopathologic Features

open access: yes, 2014
Objectives: the clinical significance of nevus-associated melanoma compared with de novo melanomas remains controversial. It has been suggested that nevus-associated melanomas have a higher Breslow thickness and therefore worse prognosis.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Clinical significance of ureaplasmas in urogenital pathology

open access: yesКлиническая практика, 2019
The clinical significance of Ureaplasmas in urogenital pathology is reviewed. Ureaplasmas belong to the class Mollicutes. Asymptomatic carriage of these bacteria is common, and most individuals do not develop disease.

The ethical challenges of artificial intelligence‐driven digital pathology

open access: yes, 2022
Digital pathology – the digitalisation of clinical histopathology services through the scanning and storage of pathology slides – has opened up new possibilities for health care in recent years, particularly in the opportunities it brings for artificial ...
