Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Low Renalase Levels in Newly Diagnosed CML: Dysregulation Sensitive to Modulation by Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors

open access: yesPathophysiology
Background: A dysregulated proinflammatory microenvironment is considered one of the reasons why current therapies of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) do not secure disease control.

Molecular genetics and pathophysiology of 17 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 3 deficiency. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Autosomal recessive mutations in the 17 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 3 gene impair the formation of testosterone in the fetal testis and give rise to genetic males with female external genitalia.

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Flavonoid-Mediated Suppression of Tumor Angiogenesis: Roles of Ang-Tie/PI3K/AKT

open access: yesPathophysiology
Angiogenesis is a process involved in the formation of new blood capillaries from pre-existing ones. It is regulated by several anti-angiogenic molecules involved in tumor growth and metastasis.

Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.

IGFBP-2 in Critical Illness: A Prognostic Marker in the Growth Hormone/Insulin-like Growth Factor Axis

open access: yesPathophysiology
Critical illness (CI) triggers complex disruptions in the growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factor (IGF) axis, significantly affecting the dynamics of insulin-like growth-factor-binding proteins (IGFBPs).

Examination of Dietary Patterns and FODMAPs Intake in Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background: There is growing evidence that supports the efficacy of a diet low in fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols (FODMAPs) for symptom management in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
