Perspective: network-guided pattern formation of neural dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The understanding of neural activity patterns is fundamentally linked to an understanding of how the brain's network architecture shapes dynamical processes.

Sirolimus for Extracranial Arteriovenous Malformations: A Scoping Review of the Evidence in Syndromic and Non‐Syndromic Cases

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare, high‐flow, vascular anomalies that can occur either sporadically or as part of a genetic syndrome. AVMs can progress with serious morbidity and even mortality if left unchecked. Sirolimus is an mTOR inhibitor that is effective in low‐flow vascular malformations; however, its role in AVMs is unclear.

Anomalous cell sorting behavior in mixed monolayers discloses hidden system complexities

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2021
In tissue development, wound healing and aberrant cancer progression cell–cell interactions drive mixing and segregation of cellular composites. However, the exact nature of these interactions is unsettled.

Models of Liesegang pattern formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this article different mathematical models of the Liesegang phenomenon are exhibited. The main principles of modeling are discussed such as supersaturation theory, sol coagulation and phase separation, which describe the phenomenon using different ...

Pattern formation in spatially heterogeneous Turing reaction-diffusion models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The Turing reaction–diffusion model [Phil. Trans. R. Soc. 237 (1952) 37–72] for self-organised spatial pattern formation has been the subject of a great deal of study for the case of spatially homogeneous parameters.

Pediatric Oncology Nursing Competencies in Latin America and the Caribbean: A Scoping Review to Inform Practice, Education, and Research

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Nurses are central to cancer care for children and adolescents, yet no comprehensive synthesis has defined essential core competencies for pediatric oncology nursing (PON) practice internationally, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

Mass-Conservation Increases Robustness in Stochastic Reaction-Diffusion Models of Cell Crawling

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
The process of polarization determines the head and tail of single cells. A mechanism of this kind frequently precedes the subsequent cell locomotion and it determines the direction of motion.

Pattern formation in inclined layer convection

open access: yes, 1999
We report experiments on thermally driven convection in an inclined layer of large aspect ratio in a fluid of Prandtl number $\sigma \approx 1$. We observed a number of new nonlinear, mostly spatio-temporally chaotic, states.

NRASQ61R Expression in Lymphatic Endothelial Cells Causes Enlarged Vessels, Hemorrhagic Chylous Effusions, and High Mortality in a Mouse Model of Kaposiform Lymphangiomatosis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Kaposiform lymphangiomatosis (KLA) is an aggressive complex lymphatic anomaly. Patients exhibit malformed lymphatic vessels and often develop hemorrhagic effusions and elevated angiopoietin‐2 (Ang‐2) levels. A somatic NRAS p.Q61R (NRASQ61R) mutation has been associated with KLA.

Prevalence and Trajectory of Household Material Hardship Among Children With Advanced Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Families of children with advanced cancer living in poverty experience inferior outcomes including poor parent mental health and worse child quality of life. Household material hardship (HMH: food, housing, transportation, and/or utility insecurity) is a modifiable poverty exposure—and potential intervention target—that ...
