First prototype of a silicon tracker using an artificial retina for fast track finding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We report on the R\&D for a first prototype of a silicon tracker based on an alternative approach for fast track finding. The working principle is inspired from neurobiology, in particular by the processing of visual images by the brain as it happens in ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

All-optical synapse based on SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+ for pattern recognition

open access: yesGongneng cailiao yu qijian xuebao
Traditional neuromorphic devices used for pattern recognition are mostly based on electrical signals, which suffer from bottleneck problems such as bandwidth limitation, resistance capacitance delay, and current crosstalk, leading to image distortion and

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Writer Identification Using Inexpensive Signal Processing Techniques

open access: yes, 2009
We propose to use novel and classical audio and text signal-processing and otherwise techniques for "inexpensive" fast writer identification tasks of scanned hand-written documents "visually".

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Second order scattering descriptors predict fMRI activity due to visual textures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Second layer scattering descriptors are known to provide good classification performance on natural quasi-stationary processes such as visual textures due to their sensitivity to higher order moments and continuity with respect to small deformations.

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

Hybrid Approach of Ontology and Image Clustering for Automatic Generation of Hierarchic Image Database [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Networked and Distributed Computing (IJNDC), 2015
This paper proposes a hybrid approach of ontology and image clustering to automatically generate hierarchic image database. In the field of computer vision, ”generic object recognition” is one of the most important topics.

An Efficient Method for online Detection of Polychronous Patterns in Spiking Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Polychronous neural groups are effective structures for the recognition of precise spike-timing patterns but the detection method is an inefficient multi-stage brute force process that works off-line on pre-recorded simulation data.
