Cell patterning on photolithographically defined parylene-C:SiO2 substrates [PDF]
Cell patterning platforms support broad research goals, such as construction of predefined in vitro neuronal networks and the exploration of certain central aspects of cellular physiology.

Early patterning of the body during animal development is a fundamental process to subsequent events including cell differentiation, tissue and organ formation, and correct function of the adult body. We focused on two major topics: body segmentation and brain patterning, both of which are essential for conferring a functional complexity to the body ...

Assaying Mechanonociceptive Behavior in Drosophila Larvae
Drosophila melanogaster larvae have been extensively used as a model to study the molecular and cellular basis of nociception. The larval nociceptors, class IV dendritic arborization (C4da) neurons, line the body wall of the animal and respond to various

Pattern stabilization through parameter alternation in a nonlinear optical system [PDF]
We report the first experimental realization of pattern formation in a spatially extended nonlinear system when the system is alternated between two states, neither of which exhibits patterning.

Transition from Spin Dewetting to continuous film in spin coating of Liquid Crystal 5CB
Spin dewetting refers to spontaneous rupture of the dispensed solution layer during spin coating, resulting in isolated but periodic, regular sized domains of the solute and is pre-dominant when the solute concentration (C n ) is very low.

Assaying Thermo-nociceptive Behavior in Drosophila Larvae
Thermo-nociception, the detection and behavioral response to noxious temperatures, is a highly conserved action to avoid injury and ensure survival. Basic molecular mechanisms of thermal responses have been elucidated in several model organisms and are ...

Atomic layer etching of SiO2 with Ar and CHF 3 plasmas: A self-limiting process for aspect ratio independent etching [PDF]
With ever increasing demands on device patterning to achieve smaller critical dimensions, the need for precise, controllable atomic layer etching (ALE) is steadily increasing.

We present a theory of quasiperiodic tilings and more general quasiperiodic patterns with long range orientational order. We explain our "strip method" (a variant of the projection methods) on a one dimensional model. Then the icosahedral case is investigated in view of the quasicrystals of the type Al-Mn.

Dynamic stroma reorganization drives blood vessel dysmorphia during glioma growth
Glioma growth and progression are characterized by abundant development of blood vessels that are highly aberrant and poorly functional, with detrimental consequences for drug delivery efficacy.

Controlled open-cell two-dimensional liquid foam generation for micro- and nanoscale patterning of materials [PDF]
Liquid foam consists of liquid film networks. The films can be thinned to the nanoscale via evaporation and have potential in bottom-up material structuring applications.
