Paul trap for the MIRACLS experiment
The construction of the Paul trap, that will act as a radiofrequency cooler and buncher for the compactMIRACLS experiment at ISOLDE, currently under construction, is finished. The Paul trap prepares the beam received from ISOLDE for an injection into the

Optical and electrical feedback cooling of a silica nanoparticle levitated in a Paul trap
All three motional modes of a charged dielectric nanoparticle in a Paul trap are cooled simultaneously by direct feedback to temperatures of a few millikelvins. We test two methods, one based on electrical forces and the other on optical forces; for both

Loading a Paul Trap: Densities, Capacities, and Scaling in the Saturation Regime
Providing ideal conditions for the study of ion-neutral collisions, we investigate here the properties of the saturated, steady state of a three-dimensional Paul trap, loaded from a magneto-optic trap.

Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Quantum entanglement of ions for light dark matter detection
A detection scheme is explored for light dark matter, such as axion dark matter or dark photon dark matter, using a Paul ion trap system. We first demonstrate that a qubit, constructed from the ground and first excited states of vibrational modes of ions

Ion injection optimization for a linear Paul trap to study intense beam propagation
The Paul Trap Simulator Experiment (PTSX) is a linear Paul trap whose purpose is to simulate the nonlinear transverse dynamics of intense charged particle beam propagation in periodic-focusing quadrupole magnetic transport systems.

Stability study of intense hadron bunches in linear accelerators using a Paul ion trap
The collective behavior of an ion cloud confined in a linear Paul trap is physically almost equivalent to that of a relativistic beam traveling in a particle accelerator.

Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Near‐surface deuterium enrichment profiles for different microstructural types of TiAl after exposure at 700 °C in a heavy water‐containing environment. The deuterium levels are significantly higher than expected from natural occurrence, indicating that the heavy water dissociated during the exposure treatment and entered the specimens.

Endcap-type Paul trap for precision spectroscopy and studies of ion-crystal dynamics [PDF]
We present the design and fabrication of an endcap-type Paul trap. The trap is designed for studies with Ca+ and Yb+. The design, fabrication process, and characterization are presented in detail, with a focus on trapping a single compensated ion at the ...
