Highly Polarizable Rydberg Ion in a Paul Trap [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
Usually the influence of the quadratic Stark effect on an ion's trapping potential is minuscule and only needs to be considered in atomic clock experiments. In this work we excite a trapped ion to a Rydberg state with polarizability ∼8 orders of magnitude higher than a low-lying electronic state; we find that the highly polarizable ion experiences a ...

Pressure‐Assisted Dimensional Transformation of 2D Hydrogenated Borophene into 0D Boron Quantum Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrogenated borophene (HB) is transformed into distinct boron nanostructures through a solvent‐free thermal process. Under flowing nitrogen, hydrogen escape promotes reconstruction into B2O3 nanoplatelets, whereas hydrogen‐induced pressure under sealed conditions facilitates fragmentation into boron quantum dots.

Hybrid Paul-optical trap with large optical access for levitated optomechanics

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
We present a hybrid trapping platform that allows us to levitate a charged nanoparticle in high vacuum using either optical fields, radio-frequency fields, or a combination thereof.

CO2‐to‐CO Conversion in a Gas‐Fed, Zero‐Gap, PEM Electrolyzer Enabled by Polycations and Nitrogen‐Doped Carbon‐Supported Cobalt Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A gas‐fed, zero‐gap, PEM CO2 electrolyzer is realized by incorporating PDDA+ ions onto the carbonaceous Co/N‐C electrocatalyst, with gaseous H2 and CO2 fed into the anode and cathode, respectively. Operating without an aqueous electrolyte, the system sustains a peak FECO of 65.1% at 100 mA cm−2. ABSTRACT Electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction (ECO2R)

Polarization-gradient cooling of 1D and 2D ion Coulomb crystals

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2020
We present experiments on polarization gradient cooling of Ca ^+ multi-ion Coulomb crystals in a linear Paul trap. Polarization gradient cooling of the collective modes of motion whose eigenvectors have overlap with the symmetry axis of the trap is ...

Paul Trap Promotion of Electrons in Atomic Collisions [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Physics, 1999
Electron promotion on rotating potential saddles is proposed as an important and efficient excitation mechanism taking place in atomic collisions at intermediate energies. Measurements on the excitation of atoms by positively charged particles, in particular, excitation of He I states in p–He collisions provides experimental evidence for this ‘Paul ...

Photoinduced Interfacial Electronic Modulation in Fe2O3‐BiVO4 Heterostructures for Enhanced Photo‐Assisted Zn‐Air Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light irradiation activates the Fe2O3‐BiVO4 heterostructure, enabling efficient solar‐electrochemical coupling in zinc‐air batteries. The built‐in electric field drives directional charge separation, guiding photoelectrons toward oxygen reduction sites and accumulating holes for oxygen evolution, thereby reducing polarization and enhancing discharge ...
